Job Posting: Full Orchestra Preparatory Director
Peninsula Youth Orchestra (PYO) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Full Orchestra Preparatory Director to lead three of our youth orchestras: Sinfonia Musica, Orchestra Nova, and Peninsula Young Artists. This role is ideal for an experienced conductor and educator passionate about fostering young musicians' growth in an engaging, supportive, and high-caliber orchestral environment.
As the Full Orchestra Preparatory Director, you will be responsible for:
Conducting rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and concerts
Selecting and programming level-appropriate repertoire
Mentoring and developing young musicians in rehearsal etiquette and technique
Overseeing audition evaluations and ensemble placement
Coordinating rehearsal schedules, seating assignments, and program details with operations staff
Serving as a visible leader in the community, recruiting students and engaging with schools
What We’re Looking For
Music degree (Bachelor’s required, Master’s preferred)
Experience conducting youth orchestras or ensembles
Knowledge of orchestral repertoire and educational methods
Strong leadership and communication skills
Passion for working with young musicians of varying skill levels
